Good Fat Bad Fat
Most people who wish to lose weight immediately assume that the most fat they cut from the diet the better. This is understandable, but not true. The truth is that not all fat is bad. In fact, our body needs a certain amount of fat each day to operate properly. Cutting all the fat from your diet is actually detrimental to your long term weight loss since a non-fat or extreme low fat diet is depriving your body of a necessary nutrient, meaning that it will be thrown off its correct balance. You may see some initial results, but your health will suffer, and you will probably gain all that weight back and more. Make sure to eat a fair amount of fat, but of the good kind. Good Fat Monounsaturated fat which can be found in olive oil, canola and peanut oils and avocados) and polyunsaturated fat (found in safflower, sesame, soy, corn and sunflower-seed oils and nuts) are actually beneficial to your health, lower bad cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. Other sources of good fat are fish like Salmon, Tuna, Trout, and herring. Fish are especially rich in Omega-3 fatty acids which are very healthy. Bad Fat Saturated fat and trans fat are mostly bad for you (even though there are some exception to this rule). Fast food fries, butter, certain meats, margarine, and some dairy products are rich in these kinds of fat which are risky to your heart since it is this kind of fat which clogs the arteries. The best thing you can do is make sure to eat more good fat than bad. Not only will you be more healthy, you will also lose weight faster. |
